This wine comes from the organically-farmed La Encantada Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, which is blessed with clay loam, sandy loam and Sta. Lucia shaly clay-loam soils. The grapes are picked and sorted by hand, manually punched down for delicate extraction and aged 18 months in 10% New French Oak barrels. The resulting wine has a perfumed nose, with earthy sandalwood and spice, scents of contrasting rose petal, rhubarb and cherry aromas. On the palate, the fruit is bright with red-cherry and raspberry, clove spice and crunchy acidity mingle with well-integrated smokey tannins.
